The Kelso Folk and Live Music Club is pleased to announce that plans are now under way for the eighth folk festival with headliners for the Saturday 6th night concert The Haar from Ireland. Tickets will be available from Browns Newsagent until Monday. If you plan to buy on the door, don’t be late. Friday night with Kris Drever in particular is selling very well
The festival opens on Friday with The Freya Rae Project, supporting a solo concert from Kris Drever. Our Saturday lunchtime concert guest is Jon Doran with Northern Company, and in the evening, Fife trio Skelpt open for The Haar. Sunday lunchtime sees Australian duo We Mavericks take the main stage after a supporting set from the club’s members, before our usual afternoon sessions and Cross Keys singaround.
Sessions, workshops and open mics offering a showcase for local talent complete the weekend and for early arrivals we have the regular Thursday night traditional/groundbreaking instrumental gathering in the Cross Keys. Expect regular indoor and outdoor sessions and performances at Rutherfords Micro Pub and the Cobbles Inn. On Saturday afternoon there will be a free concert for 3-7 year olds, generously given by Andrew Gordon of Skelpt, in the Abbey Row Centre where workshops will also be hosted.
Note that the lunchtime concerts will open earlier than advertised at 11:45 with local support so bring your lunch and enjoy the music
Saturday – Two musical couples have recently joined forces as the Woo Hoo band and will kick off the Saturday fun and songs, then Rebecca, with her sweet country lilt, wears her heart on her songs and then Local lass Elsa who is now studying trad music at Newcastle and she will be joined by two slightly older, but just as skilled, members of the Kelso trad community
Sunday starts with the well kent faces of Allan and David – stalwarts behind the scene of our club as well as being great musicians. Then from the south side of the border, Dan is winning awards for his heart-warming, nature inspired songs of love, loss and childhood memories. Aidan finishes this session – he is an exciting young fiddle player, is playing alongside his equally talented dad on guitar.
Further details can be found on the festival website. note that the trad tune session will run from 2pm on Saturday (not the morning) so that people can attend the workshops.
