We have a great songwriter and performer coming from Ayrshire for the first Cross Keys Oak Room guests night of 2025. Alex McEwan is a recording artist with full studio arrangements and we wanted some acoustic performance samples, with the minimal amplification used in our setting.
Alex McEwan at Kelso Folk & Live Music Club
Friday March 28th, the Oak Room, Cross Keys, Kelso
Doors open 7.30pm – £10 on the door or book in advance on-line from: https://www.trybooking.com/uk/EOOF
Alex McEwan is a Glasgow-born, Ayrshire-based singer and songwriter working in the tradition of transAtlantic Scots wordcraft and anthemic tunes, which have earned him good radio play exposure and a successful recent CD release ‘In a World We Don’t Know’. A BBC Radio Scotland Single of the Week, a support slot for The Shires, and appearance in the British Country Music Festival 2024 are recent highlights.
In Kelso, Alex will be playing solo – guitar and voice – and his songs may remind you of other acoustic heroes like Kieran Halpin or John Wright, songs of the heart, mind and the world around him. He doesn’t need a band or a studio to deliver them memorably and this is an evening to hear some songs you probably don’t know yet, but will remember when you hear them again.
